Это Я

In the virtual world it's easy to transform into an entirely different creature. With the click of a few keys and photo processing people instantly become more beautiful, braver and smarter. I think this is most apparent if you've ever played the online dating game. You exchange messages with someone, a few photos, and then when the time comes you meet a person entirely different from the prince you created in your head. Maybe their voice isn't what you expected, or their mannerisms or body language throw you off. It's a strange social experiment to be part of this scene. I tried it for a few months last year, but it doesn't work for me. Almost all of my past relationships started first as friendships and then progressed into something more. I still believe it's the most solid foundation for any relationship.

In my blog, I try to show you the true me. If you read me consistently it should be easy to understand my basic personality traits. The bloggers I enjoy reading most on LJ are the ones who do the same. They write with some sense of emotion and personal insight, rather than objectively. I've met two popular LJ bloggers during their visits to America. One personality was exactly as I expected, the other completely different. And when one of my readers visited DC, I shared a lovely evening with him and his wife. Wonderful, intelligent and interesting people. Exactly as I imagined from this reader's comments.

So today I show you something new about me. Recently one of my Russian friends celebrated a birthday. It's tradition for me to send foreign friends video greetings on special occasions, and in this one you can hear me speak a few Russian words. :) Yes, we all live and die by email and other forms of electronic communication. It's the way of the world but to me it sometimes grows stale and impersonal. Always better to see some animation in the face, some type of expression such that kind words and thoughts are adequately expressed and felt.

Can you understand my Russian in the video? The Russian phrase for "Happy Birthday" is very difficult for an English speaker to pronounce! Maybe I'll try a new experiment and record a short video greeting for you each month in Russian. It will motivate me to study and practice my Russian speech. Or maybe you will grow tired of seeing me? :) At least for today you can see me in motion and hear my voice. Это Я!

Woman, you are so cute! I would always rather hear someones voice or be face to face and touch them, rather then text or email. You can tell a lot about someone by their voice and their facial expressions. I think you should give online dating another try at some point. When I did it, I had so much fun! Went on hundreds of dates amd met all kinds of new people. Even if we knew right away it wasnt a romantic connection, all pressure was off and had a fun night with a new friend. Talk soon. Xoxoxo

100's of dates!! This sounds like a nightmare, not fun, to me. I'm not a social person, but you already know this. :))

[identity profile] whiteeye.livejournal.com 2013-08-28 08:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Shannon, I think you are more intovert, yes?

Just as example: I had been dating a lot before I met my husband. All these dates were online (I mean i met people online and then saw them in reality). So, I must admit it takes time and effort to find a right person but the chance really exists! Despite I am also more introvert but I dated not always but by periods. Once I had understood I was tired of people I stopped it. Then started again in some time.

Yes, I'm very much an introvert! Lots of my friends have married people they met online. But I'm not really bothered by being alone at this point. In time, someone will come along. I'm very optimistic. :)

I see you also have curly hair! And it's red! :) I always wanted red hair, makes you unique in a sea of blondes and brunettes.

Yes, you cannot build harmony with all the diversity we have now.

We should breed a "new man" first.

It's a wonderful song! I just do not understand how...Too many "how". How can't people see that an electric chair and an aircraft carrier it is the same thing. These are tools to commit murders. Fathers lead their children in port, to show a battleship and say, "Look, son, what a wonderful ship!" Guillotine can be useful, powerful, expensive, effective, but not "wonderful" ... This is so sad.

These ads would cause controversy in America as well. All white people, not representative of the true population. And you would be okay living in an all white society?

[identity profile] qi-tronic.livejournal.com 2013-08-29 02:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm already living in an all white society in Russia.
No problems so far :))

I'm not at all against black people.
After all, in this sci-fi novel I advised you, one of the major characters is of African descent.
But in terms of conscious and culture they all there are the same, blacks, whites, indian, does not matter.

---
“The man of the new society was inevitably faced with the necessity of disciplining his desires, will and thoughts. The struggle against the personal, against the ‘I’ that is man’s most dangerous enemy, is essential for the good of society and for the maximum expansion of his own intellect. This method of training mind and will is today obligatory for every one of us as is the training of the body. The study of the laws of nature and of society with its economics has replaced desire by definite knowledge. When we say ‘I want to’ we mean ‘I know that it can be done.’

“There is one other enemy amongst you, an enemy against whom we fight from the time the child makes its first steps on earth; that is, a crudeness of perception that sometimes seems to be primitive naturalness. Crudeness means that the key to measure and understanding has been lost and, consequently the key to love, since a measure of understanding is a degree of love. Thousands of years ago the Hellenes said, metron ariston, the mean is the most lofty. Today we still say that the basis of culture is an understanding of moderation in all things.

“As the cultural level improved the striving for the crude pleasures of property grew weaker and there was less craving for a quantitative increase in the amount of property owned, which once acquired, soon began to pall and leave the owner still unsatisfied.

“We have taught you the greater pleasure of austerity, the pleasure of helping one another, the genuine joy of work that sets the heart on fire. We have helped you liberate yourselves from the power of petty strivings and petty things and carry your joys and disappointments to a higher sphere, the sphere of creative activity.

“Good physical training, the clean, regular lives of dozens of generations have rid you of the third enemy of the human psyche, indifference, the empty and indolent spirit that arises out of a morbid insufficiency of energy in the body. You are going out in the world to work charged with the necessary energy, with a balanced, healthy psyche which, by virtue of the natural ratio of emotions, possesses more good than evil. The better you are, the better and more elevated society will be — the two conceptions are interrelated. You will create a high spiritual milieu as an integral part of society and society will elevate you. The social milieu is the most important factor in the training and teaching of the individual. Man today is training and learning his whole life long, so that society is constantly progressing.”

Evda Nahl stopped and smoothed her hair with her hand, using exactly the same gesture as Rhea who sat there in front, never once taking her eyes off her mother.

“At one time people called their urge to comprehend reality a mere dream,” she continued. “You will dream in that way all your lives and will know joy in knowledge, in movement, in struggle and in labour. Never pay any attention to the falls that follow flights of the spirit because they are the regular turns of the spiral of motion that we find in all matter. The reality of liberty is stern but you have been prepared for it by the discipline of your schooling and upbringing; you, therefore, are permitted all the changes of activity that constitute happiness because you are conscious of your responsibility. The dream of tranquil inactivity has not been justified by history because it is against the nature of man the fighter. There always have been and still are specific difficulties in every epoch, but a regular and rapid ascent to the heights of knowledge and emotion, science and art has become the good fortune of all mankind!”

You see, that my study of qigong directly stems from this.

You asked about female bloggers.
She is very smart, I think.
She writes mostly about style and culture of different periods in history.

Efremov published his novel in the end of 50s but he himself grew in 30s when the idea of the perfection of Man and all their qualities was at it's height. So there is definite connection.

And I like the picture with pigs :))

Something about a frog and water?? These are the only words I understand in the Russian sentence.

The idea is rather simple:

[identity profile] xpo-xpo-xpo.livejournal.com 2013-09-03 12:40 pm (UTC)(link)
The shore was covered by frogs climbing out the water -- harder is to pronounce the word выкарабкивающимися :) And this word is rather simple grammatically: only one root (карабк, climb) and several affixes (вы-, out; -ива-, incompleteness; -ющ-, participle suffix showing present tense; -ими, plural, dative; -ся, reflexive).

Oh, I was very glad to see you and to hear you talking! Your Russian is very good, but I as the English language learner I delighted in listening your Engish!
