About kishka: never tried it, but I guess it is much easier to find it in villages, I heard about smth like this from my dad.
About оливье: my family eats it with sour cream and not with mayonnaise; also, you can use fresh cucumbers instead of pickled ones and you can use meat or chicken instead of sausage -- could this possibly make оливье work for you? :)
I know the feeling though. Foreign cuisine can seem really strange, everything just tastes so different. I was confused by some American dishes (I'm Russian, as you can guess) and never got used to the taste.
