It's just an iconic American painting and the LJ post is correct that there are a lot of parodies of the artwork. I've never seen many of the parodies in that LJ post, but the Beavis and Butthead one is very funny. The average American would never take offense at the original image, and I've never even heard about the controversy discussed in the LJ post. So, I learned something about my own country by reading it. :)
