Of course an athlete's victory is their own but many also stand proud on the podium for their nation. Have you ever noticed American athletes crying when the national anthem is played? I do it too when singing the national anthem at sporting events. This idea of patriotism, or true love and loyalty for one's nation is incomprehensible for some but it does exist. Personally, I like the Olympics. The dedication it takes for the athletes to get there and the wide range of emotions from victory to defeat. However, it's a shame the Games are now so commercialized and politicized - not only in Russia but in every country in which they are held.
