The Joys of RuNet!

How can I ever leave the Russian blogosphere when I receive amusing and thought provoking comments like this! :)

"Странная женщина. 42 почти года, мужа нет. Работы, видимо, толковой тоже, иначе не каталась бы по самым дешевым билетам в Москву. Детей нет. Чего в жизни добилась-то? Русский кое-как выучила, чтоб русского мужчину найти? Так они давно разобраны, у них уже дети школу заканчивают. При этом гонор ого-го какой. Высокомерно поучает, хотя в сущности пишет банальности и глупости. Вам бы к психотерапевту, тётенька."

Btw, I never see the single male bloggers on LJ being harassed or criticized for not being married. Why is that? Is it only shameful for an older woman to be single in Russian culture, but okay for men to remain unmarried and childless? My life is worthless! I don't have a Russian man...how can I survive? :)

Pleasant weekend to all!

Prostitution is illegal here, the same as in Russia. So, if you get caught, you will likely be charged with a crime. Though not always, I think cops are pretty lenient with this offense. Personally, I support full legalization of prostitution.

So do I. Weed, guns and prostitution should be legal.

Weed will probably be legal in all States in the next five years. :)

What do you think about legalizing euthanasia?

This is a more complicated issue. I support legalization, but with a lot of restrictions (like mandatory psychiatric evaluation for the patient, a waiting period after the decision to end life and injection of the lethal dose, etc. to allow time for patient to reconsider the choice). Many other factors...

I heard they completely legalized euthanasia in Belgium, including that 4 children of all ages, psychiatric evaluation of babies seems problematic, but children can suffer too, I think if nothing else can be done, no matter what, psychiatric evaluation or none, suffering must be stopped, even kids can have terminal cancer. My mom wished she'd been euthanasized, but had to suffer to the end with little anesthesia, in our post-Soviet medical culture enough pain-killers seems to be a dream.

I watched my aunt die a long, horrible death in so much pain from liver failure. She too wanted to die, as each organ failed one after the other. When you experience something like this, you begin to rethink the issue of euthanasia.
