Как я бухала в Ярославле

The long road trip in Russia is now over. I just returned to Moscow this afternoon from Yaroslavl, where I finally met a Russian boyfriend, who spoke almost no English! :)) He came to our table, sat down, started petting my hair, blowing me kisses and trying to have a lot of conversation over coconut beer. Each trip, it's necessary to explore the local bars for one night, and one night only. It started at a basic pub, and then onward to a Soviet style kitchen, with a unique feature!

1. An old school telephone at the table. My hosts told me to dial a number and place an order to the kitchen. Ring, ring...no answer. Maybe they were just playing games with me. :) It was hard to tell after so many vodka shots.

2. Basically, Yaroslavl can be summed up in one photo. I'm usually getting drunk once a year, and it somehow always happens in Russia. It isn't necessary to touch alcohol again for a very long time. Thanks to Olga, Ilya, [livejournal.com profile] lovigin and [livejournal.com profile] macos for the local hospitality! And special thanks to Timur for showing me some sights in Yaroslavl.

Now I sit in Moscow for only a few hours, and will board the night train to Kazan this evening. This time, I'll travel third class, and maybe meet some interesting bunk mates. When I took the long train ride from Moscow to Adler last year for the Olympics, I was in a first class cabin, with someone I knew. Now, a solo adventure on Russian Railways. If I have readers in Kazan who have a car, and free time, please write in comments or send me a message. I really want to get out of city center and especially meet an authentic Tatar family who is willing to speak with me and be photographed. Of course, I need someone who can speak English and translate because my Russian is very, very bad!

In will be in Kazan all day Thursday and Friday. What is there to see and do, besides churches??

Good luck!!!
I'll waiting you post about Kazan.
Thanks

Yes, alone. It is normal for me, even in the States to be doing a lot of traveling and activities alone. Most of my friends are now married, with children, and no free time.

Actually you can speak only "semi-dirty" words on Russian TV (like shit, idiot, etc).
All real swearing words (like fuck) are forbidden.

Shannon. And why do you sleep on the floor, not on the bed?

[identity profile] peacetraveler22.livejournal.com 2015-03-04 12:28 pm (UTC)(link)
This was only a temporary sleeping position, when we first got back to the hotel. Because I was so tired, and could not stand. I moved to the bed later. :)

I actually was kidding you. Because the name of the post is completely funny. Tried to expand this fun. I know you are not a drunkard. But you are really hardcore. Travel alone to Kazan is very braveful even for a man who speaks Russian. Be careful. I don't know how Kazan is now, but in the soviet times it was a pretty much dangerous city.

Oh ...

Alexander told me it's safe, so I hope he's right. :)

The US still have a long way to real democracy and freedom of speech. But i believe one day a true master of foul language (i think he will be Robin Williams) appears on banknotes instead of Andrew Jackson.

It is always necessary to have provocative or amusing titles to draw attention on LiveJournal. :)

Thank you! I have so many posts to write from this trip, I don't know when I will find the time. I will go back to my lawyer job the day after I return to the States.

You have never been very drunk in your life? Where you simply fall asleep anywhere? :) Floor, bench, even bathroom...

[identity profile] roman-dochkin.livejournal.com 2015-03-04 12:35 pm (UTC)(link)

It would be cool, a Robin Williams or Chris Rock bank note! The latter is my favorite comedian.

[identity profile] peacetraveler22.livejournal.com 2015-03-04 12:36 pm (UTC)(link)
To Ukraine I have been! :) I suppose I will return one day.

[identity profile] roman-dochkin.livejournal.com 2015-03-04 12:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Ok, it's up to you.

[identity profile] peacetraveler22.livejournal.com 2015-03-04 12:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I do not know why there is so much news about America on Russian news channels. At my hotel in Yaroslavl, I was watching RT, the only English language channel and every story was something about the U.S. American news does not mention Russia hardly at all, only when tensions in Eastern Ukraine heat up, or there are peace discussions, like recently in Minsk. To speak about everyday, ordinary Russian life - never on American news.

The last picture is the best! But I bet it isn't selfi )))

[identity profile] peacetraveler22.livejournal.com 2015-03-04 12:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, I know this blogger and he has been very helpful. Unfortunately, he does not speak English so well and has a normal day job, like most people. So, most readers in the area are occupied during the weekday.

[identity profile] peacetraveler22.livejournal.com 2015-03-04 12:41 pm (UTC)(link)
No, it is not a selfie! I did not even know this photo was taken, until I awoke the next morning. :))

[identity profile] asharky.livejournal.com 2015-03-04 12:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, there are of course) But in his youth. Not older than 30 years.

[identity profile] qi-tronic.livejournal.com 2015-03-04 12:44 pm (UTC)(link)
You will travel in platzkart? :))
I think someone will offer you to drink with them.
Keep your money and documents on your body while sleeping.

Учитывая то что у нас тут есть пенсии и по 1300 гривен, а цены растут неимоверно, то это те же самые яйца.
Моё детство в Паневежисе прошло, к слову сказать.
