Not so rare. There is a number of trains between Moscow and St.Petersburg which have coaches of this class. It takes about 9 hours to get from Moscow to St.Petersburg on this train. Also, there is a train from Ufa to Moscow with this type of coach (almost 30 hours). I took it once when I was student. That was unforgettable experience =)
