"off the grid" - does it mean they have no electricity? Or are they just not connected to any electrical grid but have their own generators?

Emerald Lake is magnificent! It reminds me a mineral named malachite! (Offtop: Have you heard about Pavel Bazhov, a Russian writer who was born in the Urals and wrote stories based on Ural folklore? He described the Urals and all the things connected with malachite and other minerals so bewitchingly! Every time I see something green like Emerald Lake I immediately recall his stories. May be you should visit the Urals next time you are in Russia? ;))
The small village from the photo 20 looks very Russian. Of course, there are not so many such villages in Russia, but they do exist!
