Какой мультфильм был лучшим в СССР?

It was a Saturday morning tradition in my youth. My sister and I would awake early, run to the couch, and sit there for hours in our pajamas watching cartoons. What a relief for our parents! We were quiet, and they could sleep in. :) My favorite was "The Smurfs." These blue creatures were always on some spooky adventure, and I loved it. There was mystery, humor, intrigue, and even a female vixen who constantly distracted the male Smurfs. Feminists hate this imaginary blue seductress, and they created a popular theory called "The Smurfette Principle," which criticizes the way females are typically portrayed in cartoons. You can read about it here. To some extent I agree. I strongly dislike the classic Disney princess stories, where the helpless female is sitting around waiting for an imaginary prince to rescue her. Modern day Disney cartoons are much better, and the idea of a "princess" has evolved to include not only a beautiful woman, but a smart one also, with strong, charismatic personality traits.

Today, a reader sent me a Ukrainian folk cartoon, and I remember watching clips of Soviet cartoons on YouTube with [livejournal.com profile] macos during his first visit to the U.S. He introduced me to "Hedgehog in the Fog" and others. I fell in love with this adorable, fluffy character "Чебура́шка." :)

What's your favorite Soviet cartoon?

Perverts never miss such scenes! They have better eyes than us. :)

So - what do you think about this cartoon?

I did not have time to watch yet. :) I will let you know!

Agreed :))

Speaking of my childhood, that time my favorite cartoons were not Soviet. Though that time we were not shown any "western" ones, there were a lot of cartoons made in countries of the former Soviet block. Czech cartoon series about the mole, Hungarian full-length cartoon "Saffi", Romanian full-length cartoon about mice playing musketeers - they were may favorites. As for Soviet cartoons I liked to watch in my childhood I can name only "Nu pogodi". (Btw back in the Soviet Union they made a lot of cartoons with puppets, I disliked him very much).
But when I grew up I found out that there were a lot of adult cartoons in the Soviet Union. My favorite of them is "The contact" (Контакт) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=citTQLOWiVo
I also like this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fBucJGYorQ0 'll give you the star" (Дарю тебе звезду)
and this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2MVuSvWPf1E "Very blue beard" (Очень синяя борода)
and the Ukrainian folk cartoon you have given a link to is very funny and I can say I like it too.
And there is a Russian made cartoon series that I like very much, its name is Smeshariki (some of its episodes were translated to English and are known as Kikoriki or GoGoRiki). Btw since you have seen "Hedgehog in the Fog" I'd like to recommend you to watch an episode of Kikoriki named "Hedgehog in the Nebula" (Ёжик в туманности), in Russian the world Fog (Туман) and Nebula (Туманность) sound very similar and "Hedgehog in the Nebula" is a parody to "Hedgehog in the Fog".

Hedgehog in the Nebula...thanks, I will google it and watch. :) I've never seen cartoons from former Soviet bloc countries, but it's always interesting and fun to see how they differ based on the region of the world. But no matter in which country they originate, female characteristics are almost always exaggerated (big breasts, hour glass figure, etc.).

I strongly dislike the classic Disney princess stories, where the helpless female is sitting around

That's just Sleeping Beauty and Snow White. Even Cinderella, a horrible stereotype as she is, is not really passive.

Give Uncle Walt some credit, pls.

Okay, maybe I was too harsh. The Little Mermaid is good! :)
