Let's talk about Syria...

Today, a rare exception in the blog and a search for understanding - politics! I've been closely watching reports about the Russian airstrikes, mostly from RT, which is one of the most anti-Western, Kremlin controlled media outlets. Please explain to me why it's okay for Russia to drop bombs on Syria, but not the U.S.? Do you support this military action? Reading the headlines on RT is enough to make my head spin. Complete glory and hysteria erupting over the great and powerful Russia, everyday tons of posts praising the military action, yet never missing a chance to say something wild and derogatory about the U.S. or Europe in the process. Just a few examples:

-  "Less talk, more action! Russian jets destroy ISIS HQ's, tanks and munitions - all in 1 week!!"
-  "Russia destroys ISIS command, U.S. destroys hospital"
-  "The F-35 death trap!: Pentagon jet's ejection seat could snap pilot's neck"

Russian bombs will not kill innocent civilians? Impossible. I find it scary that Russian and U.S. fighter jets are flying in the same airspace - a disaster waiting to happen?

Last night, I asked one reader how Russians feel about this situation, and his response was interesting: "I'm personally glad because I always want to restore the glory of the Russian Empire and Soviet Union. I was born in a first-class country, a world power, a center of the world, and I cannot live and feel otherwise." How do you feel? From my perspective, all of this joy and enthusiasm over the Russian bombings is hypocritical, especially when so many people constantly climb into my comments shouting "Iraq, Libya, Syria, Afghanistan" over and over again, criticizing the U.S. for "dropping bombs" all over the world.

Please help me understand why so many Russians support this military action in Syria. I don't closely follow geopolitical relations, they're not of special interest to me, but it's a very interesting cultural dynamic to explore - the cult of war and militarism. Not in government, but among ordinary citizens of a nation.

I will read all your comments, but please be respectful to each other in the discussion.

Because ISIS and other kind of terrorist shit is quite close to the russian bordres. Less than 500 miles from nothern Syria to suothern russian regions.

And because more than 2000 russian citizens are now in ISIS fighting against goverment forces in Syria and other countries. And they can return to Russia with war skills/ Much better to destroy them at Syria right now.

And because officially Chechen war was ended only 6 years ago and most of russian citizens don't forgett what is it.

And - video. Do not watch this video till the end. You need just recognise the terrorist's language.

That's strange. 2000 russian citizens fight against Assad, so we should bomb ISIS and Syrian opposition.

Budennovsk, Nord-Ost, Beslan and other attacks were organized by russian citizens.

If russian citizens take part in a war that didn't mean that Russia should fight against them. It's a crazy cause for war. Russian citizens take part in a war in Donbass, so Russia should fight against DNR? LOL. Or you think that terrorists from Beslan went to ISIS? I thought that they are in the prison or in the ground. Or you think that these guys come to Russia and will make a new terror act? They will do it, becouse Russia start to fight, and they will take vengeance on Russia. And smarter not to take part in this crazy bloody circus. So, if Russia fight against ISIS should Russia fight against DNR too? I dont't think so.

Donetsk People Republic don't treat to Russian citizens. There is no donbass terrorists in Moscow and Kiev as well.

Or you think that terrorists from Beslan went to ISIS?
------------
Not, but some killed terrorust from arab countries were from the same organisation, which now merged in ISIS. Same kind of shit.

Or you think that these guys come to Russia and will make a new terror act?
----
With russian passport much easer to cross the border.

They will do it, becouse Russia start to fight,

Nope. ISIS speaker Abu Muhamad Al Adnani declares war with Russia at the end of the June 2015. They want a war with Russia - they've recieved war. But now - on our conditions.

// Donetsk People Republic don't treat to Russian citizens.

Yeah, and ISIS didn't treat russian citizens as well.

// There is no donbass terrorists in Moscow and Kiev as well.

There are donbass terorists in Ukraine, they blows up bridges and infrustructure and kills people in Kharkiv, for example. So there are terrorists in DNR, not everybody, of course.

// Not, but some killed terrorust from arab countries were from the same organisation, which now merged in ISIS. Same kind of shit.

On the other hand now Russia support Hezbolla, another terrorists, but same kind of shit.

// Nope. ISIS speaker Abu Muhamad Al Adnani declares war with Russia at the end of the June 2015. They want a war with Russia - they've recieved war. But now - on our conditions.

They declare war to everybody, it means nothing. But there was no terror acts in Russia. Now we should wait for them. There is no ways to win this war. Everebody who join will lose. There is no any sensible reason to Russia to join this war.

The U.S. is one of the biggest terrorist targets in the world, so there's no difference regarding terrorist threats. Americans haven't forgotten Sept. 11th or the Boston bombings either, the latter of which was a result of the Chechens.

[identity profile] radonis.livejournal.com 2015-10-08 02:03 pm (UTC)(link)
both cases were weakly proven to be terrorist attacks. I do remember how US MM were calling Chechen terrorists "rebels" while those were bombing hoses in Russia and killing innocent in Chechnya. There is no special right to pay world's police because you had your citizens killed.

US called Chechen terrorists "rebels", I remember that well. It took Boston to explain who they were. Now there are now moderate rebels in Syria, right? May be McCain is too old to learn anything?
