I am a Batumi resident since 1998. So I have seen a lot in these years.
Well, the hospitability and other related things are common, I admit that. But if we take some foreigner, especially from Western countries, then this hospitability frequently turns in some PR-action, aimed to create a WOW-factor in the guest's mind. But in this case hospitability loses its original concept and looks more like advertisement or so, what I don't like at all. Too theatrical and demonstrative. I prefer the hospitability here to be more simple and honest, not that glossy fake that most think to be the "real" one. Luckily I met the true hospitability in Georgia several times and I really appreciate these people for being open and honest, just as they were.
During all these years, I met tons of foreigners, but in 99% of cases I just talked to them and gave some useful hints. If I see some British/American/German here, I never start to think how can I fascinate them with my house or going with them to pub or so. What, are they different from other people around?
But there are exlusions, of course. In 2005 our family hosted German bikers and in 2013 I hosted a Scottish backpacker - my father took him to the city when he was hitchhiking. The guy did not eat normally for some days and needed to recover after long trip. I had enough place in my flat, why not to help him and listen to some cool stories?
