I don't know how Russians feel about the Olympics, but American television is already showing a lot of ads and promos for the event. In general, the Olympics are a big deal here. Most people enjoy them and are glued to their televisions watching the events and coverage for almost three weeks. However, this past week U.S. media has been on a mission to instill fear about possible terror threats in and around Sochi. It started at the end of December with the Volgograd bombings, but this week panic reached epic proportions with the release of a new video from Islamic terrorists and the identification of potential "black widow" bombers. Of course, it's normal to discuss terror threats before any Olympic Games but Sochi and Russia are receiving a lot more attention than other Olympic hosts, at least in the American press.

What do you think? Can Russian security forces handle the threats posed by these extremists at the Olympics? If possible, would you attend the Sochi Games?

Olympic Games would never be cancelled! And athletes have dedicated their entire lives training for this event so the idea of boycotting the Games is almost unimaginable to them. However, it seems most Russian readers don't care about the Olympics and in fact are directly opposed to the Games being held in Russia. Shocking for me.

I am not against the Games. Let the Games be!

But we already boycotted the Games in Moscow when the Soviets had an aggression in Afghanistan. I should have been done for the Sochi games.

First of all the decision to have the games in Russia should have never been taken. It is a result of Putin's bribery of the International Olympic Committee authorities. - This is shocking for me.

I don't understand why they picked Sochi as the host city? Mild climate for Russian winter and it's located in this volatile region. Logic missing here.

In the Proverbs of King Solomon (in a proper modern translation), there is a verse: Bribes are a great thing. Bribes can lead man very far ...

Putin wanted it in his vanity to stand in history between Stalin and Hitler. Putin paid.

This may push Putin to follow the steps of Hitler in Sudetenland and Austria - Anschluess.

Shall we react like in 1938 (after the Olympics in Germany) letting him go? I am afraid we will.
Obama made a great mistake not appointing John McCain the Secretary of State!

We need a soldier, John Kerry is too intellectual and soft for this job. (This actually is why he and Al Gore, both lost to the clown Dubba Bush)

It could seems strange at first sight, but there are many competitions, which helded on artificial ice, indoor.
And for outdoor competitions there are mountains near Sochi.

For example, 2006 Winter Games was held in Turin. Italy is definetely not a cold country.

Sochi appears to have very diverse landscapes - sea, mountains, etc. My understanding is that foreigners will not be permitted to explore the region, and will be confined only to the zoned Olympic space.

I know. I have been in Sochi once. And in the Caucasus mountains too.

"My understanding is that foreigners will not be permitted to explore the region, and will be confined only to the zoned Olympic space."

I don't know about that.
But there will be restricted areas. And there will be monitoring of all vehicles entering the territory of the city.
