How can I ever leave the Russian blogosphere when I receive amusing and thought provoking comments like this! :)

"Странная женщина. 42 почти года, мужа нет. Работы, видимо, толковой тоже, иначе не каталась бы по самым дешевым билетам в Москву. Детей нет. Чего в жизни добилась-то? Русский кое-как выучила, чтоб русского мужчину найти? Так они давно разобраны, у них уже дети школу заканчивают. При этом гонор ого-го какой. Высокомерно поучает, хотя в сущности пишет банальности и глупости. Вам бы к психотерапевту, тётенька."

Btw, I never see the single male bloggers on LJ being harassed or criticized for not being married. Why is that? Is it only shameful for an older woman to be single in Russian culture, but okay for men to remain unmarried and childless? My life is worthless! I don't have a Russian man...how can I survive? :)

Pleasant weekend to all!

Yes, it was masterful. Further comment from the same person - "Ну да, ну да, прогрессивная американка, носительница современных идей, учит отсталых русских, этих средневековых дикарей, демократии и толерантности. Вы просто дура."

Maybe this person is right - I need psychotherapy. Because sometimes I feel like I must be a masochist to write on RuNet. :))

Are you going to discuss every weird comment submitted by virtual queers?
The more you do so, the happier they are. Your attention will encourage them to continue posting their ravings.

Of course not! Every day I'm receiving strange comments and attacks. But this one was really funny (at least to me), that's why I shared it. To give readers a laugh, and also to pose a serious question. Because I don't understand why people on LJ don't harass single, childless male bloggers? For instance, someone like puerrtto (yes - a Jew! - so maybe you don't read him). :)

Who harasses whom?)) It is ridiculous :) In a regard, the Internet is a place where different people harass one another to have fun or for other reasons. By the way, might such a comment be a good material to file a complaint in Murica? I dunno - harassment, stalking and stuff. I mean is there any real chance to take the author to the court?)

No, there is no basis for a lawsuit in America for this comment. We value free speech and expression, even if such expression is stupid or hateful. To prove libel/defamation is extremely difficult. First, you have to prove the statement was false. Someone's opinion is rarely considered "false." Second, you must show you were actually damaged in some way (monetarily, psychologically, etc.). None of the elements are applicable in this instance.

Another question for lawer - I read stories how people were provoked by undercover policewomen to solicit prostitution and then they had troubles. Does it seem real or it is likely to be just a legend/hoax? Are the cops allowed to provoke people?

No, it's true. Officers sometimes go undercover as prostitutes, drug dealers, etc. in order to catch criminals. But the criminal can always assert a defense called "entrapment". You can read about it here, if you're interested. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Entrapment. However, this defense is rarely successful.

It is really weird. I suppose there are many people angry at cops out there. I wouldn`t like to be labelled "sex-offender" and put in the same sack with pedophiles, rapists and so forth just for trying to arrange a meeting with an adult woman for sex in exchange for money with her total consent.

Prostitution is illegal here, the same as in Russia. So, if you get caught, you will likely be charged with a crime. Though not always, I think cops are pretty lenient with this offense. Personally, I support full legalization of prostitution.

So do I. Weed, guns and prostitution should be legal.

Weed will probably be legal in all States in the next five years. :)

What do you think about legalizing euthanasia?

From: [identity profile] peacetraveler22.livejournal.com
This is a more complicated issue. I support legalization, but with a lot of restrictions (like mandatory psychiatric evaluation for the patient, a waiting period after the decision to end life and injection of the lethal dose, etc. to allow time for patient to reconsider the choice). Many other factors...

I heard they completely legalized euthanasia in Belgium, including that 4 children of all ages, psychiatric evaluation of babies seems problematic, but children can suffer too, I think if nothing else can be done, no matter what, psychiatric evaluation or none, suffering must be stopped, even kids can have terminal cancer. My mom wished she'd been euthanasized, but had to suffer to the end with little anesthesia, in our post-Soviet medical culture enough pain-killers seems to be a dream.

I watched my aunt die a long, horrible death in so much pain from liver failure. She too wanted to die, as each organ failed one after the other. When you experience something like this, you begin to rethink the issue of euthanasia.
