On 17 February 1973, a young woman named Judy entered a hospital in Manassas, Virginia and gave birth to me. She was only twenty years old at the time, and so many years have passed since then. I can hardly believe that I'm now 42! Each time I look at the year of my birth I'm in shock. :)) How can it be, when I still feel like a twenty year old at heart, and in spirit?

The past two years, I celebrated my birthday in Moscow, but this year I'll be warm and cozy in my apartment, looking at the white snow falling from the window. Mother nature delivered a snow storm to the Washington, DC area on my special day, and subzero temps for the past week. I guess it's good for a winter baby like me, to welcome a new year of life with snowflakes and my favorite temperatures. We can never know what life will bring us each year; however, there's always a certainty there will be ups and downs. Joys and sorrows. And I hope many adventures!

Hello 42...let's have some fun! :)

Russia - see you next week! I arrive on 24 February, and the first big journey of the year begins!

I would not say I'm "attached," but it's a fascinating country to visit. :) And I have close friends there.

Let me respectfully disagree.
I use to live in Russia for many years.
And I have a right to say that Russia is a pretty shitty country, with a lot of ignorant aggressive people.
Yes, St.Peterbourg looks nice from the window of a coach bus.
But if, Gog forbid, you find yourself in trouble there outside of the tourist area, do not expect anything good.
I am not trying to scare you, I am just informing you in advance.
When you in Russia, be aware of your surroundings.

This is my fourth visit to the country, so I know what to expect. I already wrote a lot of negative impressions about Russia during my prior travels. You can read my old reports. :) But also good things. When I'm there, I travel with a Russian most of the time, and we are not riding or visiting tourist areas. I already posted the route we'll drive on the road trip next week. You can look at the updated route in my travel companion's blog - http://macos.livejournal.com/1002114.html

I do not like entering new decades. :) But, I entered 40 two years ago, so now it's okay. The next drama will come at 50! :)) Btw, are you a fan of the classic American show "I Love Lucy"? I see America's most famous red head on your avatar. :)

Thanks! The photos were taken outside yesterday, in very windy conditions with temperatures below zero. My face was frozen. :)) It's good to have photographer friends, who can make you look nice in any conditions.

I live in Arlington because I work in the city, but all of my family is in Manassas. So, I'm there almost every weekend to visit and for social events. I lived there almost my whole life. I only moved to Arlington a few years ago, but Manassas will always be "home." :)
