Almost two years ago, I wrote a post with a question in the title "What is Love?" The post discussed a monumental Supreme Court decision in favor of gay rights, which granted Federal benefits to same-sex couples in States that recognized gay marriages. It was clear at the time that America's mentality on this issue had shifted dramatically in the last decade. Just moments ago, this was further confirmed when the U.S. Supreme Court issued one of the most anticipated decisions of this term. A monumental victory, holding that gay marriage will now be legal in EVERY U.S. State. The basic outcome of the decision is that States no longer have the authority to reserve marriage rights only to heterosexual couples.
For me, it's absolutely the right outcome, although I understand that most Russians have a completely different view on this topic. Just today I read a post by

popados, with over 600 comments, many of which are filled with hate and a rather savage mentality about gays, in my opinion. I will never understand how what someone does in their OWN bedroom impacts others. Personally, I advocate for love between two consenting adults, regardless of the form in which it arises. The fact that two men or two women wish to marry and share their lives together has absolutely no impact on me in any way. Many people often climb into the comments claiming that gays want "special" rights, but this Supreme Court decision is not about that. It grants only EQUAL rights, nothing more. It's no secret that I fully support the gay community, I have many gay friends who have had lifelong partners, a few have even adopted children. They live as normal families, going about their daily lives, loving their child, going to the park, grocery store, etc. There's nothing hedonistic or perverse about the manner in which they conduct themselves. Look here, two women, in love for 31 years, sharing their lives together. Why should they be denied the right to marry?
In all honestly, I became disgusted reading the comments in the post by
popados, but I found one to be very profound and intelligent:"Пост хороший. Спасибо. А большинство комментариев - как всегда дерьмо. Поразительно, сколько людей живут в невежестве, гордятся этим невежеством и выставляют его напоказ. Такое чувство, что гомофобам в жизни больше гордиться нечем, кроме как своим гетеросексуальным либидо. Тыкают себя пальцем в грудь и орут, посмотрите, какой я мужик, посмотрите, какой я мужик. Будто бы сами в этом сомневаются и пытаются лишний раз убедить себя. Очевидно, другие попытки доказать себе свою силу с треском провалились, поэтому надо отыграться на тех, кто слабее.
У меня в институтские годы было двое друзей, гетеросексуальных парней. Они общались со мной на равных, и это никак не повлияло на их самооценку. Они не считали общение со мной зашкваром. И я их за это очень уважаю. Они доказали, что сила человека, мужчины в частности, определяется иными критериями.
А всяким там товарищам, которые, растя своих детей, уверены в том, что их дети никогда не будут гомосексуалами, хочу сказать одно. Вас таких мечтателей - вагон и маленькая тележка. Только природа всё по своим местам расставляет, и вас, дураков, не спрашивает. И если природой будет положено, что ваш ребёнок будет геем, значит, так тому и быть, и ничего вы с этим не сделаете, даже если изобьёте своё дитя до кровавых соплей. Я понимаю, почему вы беситесь. Вы - невежды, и вы считаете, что гомосексуальность - следствие неправильного воспитания, и потому, если ваш ребёнок оказывается геем, вы считаете себя хреновым родителем, это бьёт по вашему самолюбию. Вы-то, несомненно, планировали вырастить идеального ребёнка, а тут такая подстава. Вы злитесь, но злость ваша порождена всё тем же тотальным невежеством, откровенно дерьмовым образованием в этой области. Вы начинаете мучить себя и своего ребёнка, вместо того, чтобы взять в руки хорошую книгу или обратиться за разъяснением к специалисту, вместо того, чтобы получить какие-то знания на этот счёт.
Вам нравится ваше невежество, потому что оно даёт вам повод чувствовать себя сильным, не прилагая реальных усилий для того, чтобы стать сильным. Вы чувствуете себя сильными, потому что родились гетеросексуальными. Это очень удобно - чувствовать силу, палец о палец не ударив, чтобы её получить. Вы чувствуете себя первым сортом, состоявшейся личностью, только потому, что спите с людьми противоположного пола, вы чувствуете, что, слава богу, нашлись в этом мире люди, гомосексуалы, которые хуже вас. Это удобно, когда ты стоишь выше кого-то, но не приложил никаких усилий для этого статуса.
Однако, грустная правда состоит в том, что вы всё равно слабаки. И как личности вы не состоялись. Потому что вы гордитесь тем, что вам дано природой, вместо того, чтобы гордиться тем, чего вы достигли собственным потом. Очевидно, что второго в вашей жизни просто нет. А гомосексуалы живут и чувствуют свою силу, потому что вы превращаете их жизнь в филиал ада на земле своими вонючими советами на предмет как жить, что делать и как себя вести, а они всё равно живут, и есть у них в жизни свои маленькие радости. И для того, чтобы чувствовать свою силу, им не требуется унижать вас, достаточно и того, чтобы, не смотря на весь тот филиал ада на земле, который вы им устраиваете, чего-то достичь в жизни. И потому, пока вы не излечитесь от своей гомофобии, они всегда будут в разы сильнее вас. А вы, неспособные справиться со своими средневековыми рефлексами, так и будете слабаками."

I'm not trying to imply that the American viewpoint or mentality should make its way to Russia, I'm only highlighting a huge distinction between our cultures and mentalities on a basic human rights issue. Russia and its citizens are free to dictate their own society, laws and regulations. However, on this day, I'm very proud to be an American. To live in a country that advocates for love between consenting adults, in all forms.
Just moments ago, the official Facebook page of the White House posted this photo. This was a rather provocative move, which angered many in the comments.
In the U.S. today, many people will hug their wife, husband, boyfriend or girlfriend and celebrate this victory for love! Have a nice weekend! :)

Yes, there was a small percentage of people saying something like: "Aye, I hate those little buggers, and if my children happened to be like them, I would probably give them away!", but it seems, that most Russian commentators share one distinctive view on homosexuality: "Don't bother us with your flamboyance and parades and do whatever you want in your bedroom". And that's a very broad-minded attitude, I am not like that. I think, that only attractive lesbians, like the two girls on the second photo, should be allowed, and even encouraged, to get married. This fucking world, full of crazy religious fanatics, horrible deseases and contemporary art, needs more busty blonde lesbians, making out in the streets. The rest - gay guys and heterosexual couples - can go to hell.
