Will I Survive?

I now sit at my desk completely distracted and worried. On the day I left Maine last week, I awoke with a huge red bump on a certain part of my body. At first, I thought it was a bug bite or evil pimple. But this mass has continued to grow in the last five days, and the irritation and pain level also has risen. The redness has spread and it's clear something has amassed under my skin. It feels like a round, hard rock and is sensitive to the touch. It doesn't itch, but sharp nerve pains occasionally spread down my arm. It seems recently that I can't have a successful vacation without some medical consequence. Remember last year when I came back from Palestine and had a mysterious illness and skin rash? I suspected that it was from hugging and touching so many dirty children in the remote villages I visited. Doctors never determined what the bumps were, but they eventually faded over time. What do you think this current mysterious bump is? Will I survive? :)) I know everyone loves to run and provide advice and opinions on RuNet. Help me! :)

It looks like an small abscess. Definitely you must see the doctor ASAP. But you gonna be all right.

Oh, I hope not! :( But I do spend a lot of time in the forest during the summer, so there's a chance a tick has invaded my body.

He will just refer me to another specialist. But I'm not sure what type of doctor to see for this? Maybe a dermatologist?

Obviously the health care is very important for everyone. Just don't delay your visit to the doctor. Better off go to ER.

I will Olga! I showed the bump to my colleagues today, and they all felt it and told me to immediately go to the doctor. They scared me, and I will now go and make sure it's not something serious. Thanks for your concern. :)

If you go to PCP for regular check up, it will be covered by insurance (otherwise it will go into deductible) . If your PCP is board certified in Family Medicine (s)he can handle small abscess or skin reactions. If s(he) internist, you'll get referral to the right specialist.

I think I will go the "urgent care" facility by my house. These are cheaper than the ER, and treated as normal doctor visits with only $25 copay.

Shannon, if I were you I'd either go to an urgent care (since if you go to an ER you'll probably end up spending half a day waiting - in their opinion it's not a true emergency) or maybe if you have a friend who is a doctor just send him/her the picture to get an advice. Hopefully it's nothing serious.

I never go the ER anymore. There's a good urgent care place by my house, and it's much cheaper than an ER visit. I think it will be fine. Probably it is just some skin irritation. I have very sensitive skin. :( It has been this way since I was a child. I couldn't even wear normal diapers. My mom had to use cloth ones and continually wash them.
