Scenes from Montana

FullSizeRender (6)

There's nothing to write or say about these pictures. If I felt inspired, I would sit and create some poetic or dreamy lyrics to accompany them, but lately it seems almost no one reads such texts. And I'm lazy today, so I will just publish the photos to show you more of the scenic landscapes from Montana. This State is rarely visited by foreign tourists, as they are all gathered in New York City, Washington, DC, Miami, Las Vegas or San Francisco. These cities consistently rank as the most visited by foreign guests in the USA. It's a pity because I think there are so many more interesting, unique and beautiful places in America, including Montana. I hope you enjoy!

Which U.S. city or State do you want to visit? Maybe I've inspired some of you to think about Montana. :) Have a nice weekend!

For those who lived in Soviet Union, Montana is associated with jeans of the same name. I don't know why, but almost all jeans here were of this trade mark. So "Montana" became one of the symbols of "western style of life" in Soviet Union.

Cool! :) This was a brand of jeans manufactured in the Soviet Union, or abroad?

"Montana jeans" - was extremely trendy in late USSR. ))

I never heard of this USSR brand, but a reader attached a picture in another comment. :)

Really good pictures. I love to the depth of my heart roads like that with no traffic, no cities, without nothing, just road and nature. It`s perfect.

[identity profile] peacetraveler22.livejournal.com 2016-03-18 11:03 am (UTC)(link)
I love road shots! However, in Montana it was difficult to shoot these open roads. First, because I was driving alone most of the time and needed to concentrate due to the narrow lanes and possibility of big animals suddenly appearing on the road (happened three times!). Second, because there are almost no shoulders on the main stretches of highway in Montana. So, there's really nowhere to pull the car over, get out and take proper pictures safely. Most of the shots were taken through the front window of the car, that's why the quality of the images isn't the best.

Beautiful pictures!

I don't know why, but I have the "Twin Peaks" theme in my head, when I look at these pictures. :)

Thanks! I'm not the best photographer, but try. The beauty must be experienced in person though to fully appreciate. :)

Great shots!
However, I respectfully disagree with this:
> This State is rarely visited by foreign tourists, as they are all gathered in New York City, Washington, DC, Miami, Las Vegas or San Francisco.
In my experience, all national parks attracts huge crowds, and foreign bus tours (mostly German and Japanese) are a large part of it. (But perhaps it's seasonal, and that's why you didn't run into them in mid-winter.) In October of 2012 (was it 2012?) I was on the road in SE Utah when all NPs were shut down... the consequences were disastrous for that area (Bryce, Zion) as probably more than half of local business depends on tourism. The crowds shifted to SPs (like Kodachrome) which fortunately stayed open. One day I couldn't get a motel room in Escalante (all sold out) and faced the prospect of a night out without camping gear, but fortunately the head ranger at Escalante Petrified Forest SP lent me a swag and let me sleep on his front lawn... sure enough, it dropped below freezing by the morning. And the airport in Page was doing brisk business in scenic flights over Lake Powell -- which I also took.

[identity profile] peacetraveler22.livejournal.com 2016-03-18 11:00 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks! Well, Montana, Wyoming, all of the Western States I love are never on the most visited list for foreign tourists. You're right, in summer there is a huge influx of tourist traffic, but this is only a few months out of the year. The top cities are always consistent. You can see them here https://skift.com/2014/06/18/20-most-popular-u-s-cities-among-international-travelers-in-2013/. I remember when the parks had to close down that summer. I felt so bad for tourists who had traveled so far to explore my country and lost the opportunity. :(( My cousin is now a Park Ranger in California. :)

It's very beautiful, love scene with wide valley.

I felt like the Queen of the world standing above and looking down at these majestic valleys and landscapes. :)

7. Where did they steal this European cathedral? :)

13. Longhorns?

Overall very beautiful!

[identity profile] peacetraveler22.livejournal.com 2016-03-18 11:49 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not sure what the animal is, but I think it's a herd of longhorns. The cathedral is very beautiful to look at from above if you hike partly up Mt. Helena, as I did. But then I became scared being up in the mountain alone, with no one else around, and began the short descent down. :)) Some wild mountain man could've been hiding, waiting for a juicy victim like me. :) The cathedral sits in the center of the city. http://www.sthelenas.org/

Very nice and so great open spaces.

[identity profile] peacetraveler22.livejournal.com 2016-03-18 12:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes! Such open spaces, which I adore. I can't even imagine the feeling of a native Montana person if they travel to a place like New York City, where millions of people are all running around in such a small geographic space. Culture shock! :))

I drove from Calgary to Phoenix through Montana last September. Beautiful landscape, empty roads, high speed limit. Stayed in Butte overnight.

[identity profile] peacetraveler22.livejournal.com 2016-03-18 12:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, high speed limits! In my area, it is only 55mph on most highways. I was only in Butte for a few hours. How is Calgary? I really want to visit Alberta, esp. Banff National Park!

NICE SCENERY

(Anonymous) 2016-03-18 01:01 pm (UTC)(link)
How about self-sufficiency, does the climate allow you to grow stuff:))?

Re: NICE SCENERY

[identity profile] peacetraveler22.livejournal.com 2016-03-18 01:11 pm (UTC)(link)
In winter, Montana is very cold and a lot of snow, although this winter was much warmer than usual. I think the climate is good for growing produce during the summer months. And, of course, ranching and the beef industry are huge here, regardless of weather. :)

Looks nice. New Hempshire/Vermont looks the same but not so cold/detached.

[identity profile] peacetraveler22.livejournal.com 2016-03-19 04:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I love those States also, but they are the opposite of Montana because they are so small! :) The nature in those places is also wonderful, but it is not the same feeling of being in such wide, open spaces. I especially like Vermont!

[identity profile] iklin.livejournal.com 2016-03-19 10:54 am (UTC)(link)
It looks like Southern Siberia where I live so... No, I don't want to visit Montana. :)
Arizona attracts me. :) And other Sun Belt States.

Several Russians have told me they want to visit Arizona. What's the appeal? If you're from Siberia, maybe the heat. :))

Fascinating sceneries! I definitely would like to visit Montana if sometime I visit the US. And also I'd like to visit the Yosemite Valley and the Yellowstone National Park!

I hope you also include Virginia on your route if you ever make it to the USA. :)
