I don't know how foreigners perceive the "typical American woman." However, three times this week, I have been called this.

Stereotypes - they are very damaging in many cases, and must be quashed. We are all influenced by stereotypes on some level, but I really try to erase them from memory when traveling, forming impressions based only on pure experience. Most recently, I can say it about Georgia - where everyone warned me about all kinds of things, when in reality I encountered almost none of the horrors mentioned. In the end, we are responsible for the company we keep. You have the choice to surround yourself with good, positive and uplifting...or, you can run wild with the animals in the zoo.

Most people using this phrase - "typical American woman" have never even met, or had any real experience with an American woman. Therein lies the problem...that is all I really want to say for today. :)

I would add that most of them won't even have a chance to have this experience :)
In 15 years living here I became "a typical American woman"(at least I hope so) but with a Russian accent.
For me the term means: self-sufficient, active woman who doesn't put up with b.s. All the rest - just deviations.

This particular woman I always considered as typical american one: https://youtu.be/KqTXc5grgBg

Middle-aged, slightly overweight, expressive, doesn't have kids, likes talking about sex stuff. I don't know if she is really typical or not. The funny thing she is from Canada but I think there's no big difference.

Ha-ha - I had a chance to see "typical american woman". :)))
But mosty I can only say something about the exterior and a little bit about the public behaviour.
And to be honest: there are strong differences in style for white/african-origin/hispanic-orgin women :)))
I would rather suppose that "self-sufficient / independent / responsible" are rather stereotypes based on media :)))

And by the way - you look like typical white american woman in terms of the exterior :)))

Yeah, US is so different in different parts of it. Who is the typical American, I ask? A Yappy from the Manhattan? Yankee from the New Hampshire? Iowan with roots in the Holland? Californian from the Pacific islands? It all stupid generalizations....

I like this kind of American women. If an American woman doesn't look like this, she's not American but a foreigner.

All American women I met were easy-going in communication and more vivid than Russians. Is it a stereotype?:))

I guess the word "American" doesn't matter much in that construction. People who say "All the **** are like that" never met all the people they're talking about. There is no research in the world that would be able to evaluate the behavior of the whole group (women, gay people, Americans, meat lovers, nurses) Some people understand that, but others only feel safe when they're sure about smth, and new information makes thev totally unhappy, because in this case they have to think a lot, which is very annoying=)

a typical American woman (from the city) for me would be like Lorelai from Gilmore Girls: loves to eat, loves to drink alcohol, opinionated, kind of broke, has sex whenever she wants to, likes to "have fun". Has a job, but not very passionate about it.

Typical American woman? What's wrong with that, lol? Was it in negative or positive context, or just neutral?

Oh, what happened? Why were you called "typical American women"? What kind of conversation or argument you were having?

My only stereotype about American women (or rather how they are different from Russian women) is that they are very confident whatever they do... Which is a good thing)

American women ... it's hard to choose the right words... but maybe they are too logical and motivated ot at least want to look so.
Feel like men in conversation.
Less women more boyscouts.

America generally gets this "boyscout" feeling and women are not the exception.

There is no such a thing as "typical American" (gender doesn`t matter). The US population became too diverse to use adjective "typical" while describing it.
