Russia No. 1 in Anti-Americanism?

Today The Moscow Times published an interesting article entitled Why Russia Is No. 1 in Anti-Americanism. The article summarizes the results of a recent Gallup International poll where approximately 70,000 residents in 65 countries were asked "Who is the greatest threat to world peace?" 24% of worldwide respondents answered "America", but Russia exceeded the global response by more than double, with 54% of Russians choosing America.

Conversely, only 2% of Americans in the Gallup poll think Russia is a threat to global peace. I've mentioned before that Russia doesn't dominate American news, nor do most Americans spend any time thinking about the country at all. A rare exception recently due to the Olympic Games being held in the country. I don't know how powerful state controlled propaganda is in Russia because my knowledge of the language isn't proficient enough to watch these broadcasts. Honestly, a lot of faith and reliance should not be placed on such polls because they are always skewed in some manner. Russian bloggers like fritzmorgen, a master at statistics and anti-Western data, could probably search the Internet and find polls which say the opposite - that Americans don't trust Russia, etc. The article also indicates that another Gallup poll asked Russians the following question: "If there were no barriers to living in any country in the world, which country would you live in?" The number one answer amongst Russians? "America." Thus, the two polls seem diametrically opposed.

Putin's anti-Americanism comes from his believes that America is the only real threat to his way of power, the way he, and his apparent followers, will control the power in Russia and safeguard his personal future once or if he retires. This is the future of a person who did so much harm and damage to Russian people, to its moral benchmarks and the country itself. He turned Russia's moral standards to the once of people of cage ages where they are in fight all the time and consider everything around them hostile to them. He truly believes that honesty, integrity and people's power are irrelevant and unnecessary matter of politics; he thinks that American or in general West politicians who believes in those values are either idiots or hypocritical just like himself. Also he has so much ambitious and is full of impudence to think that he can spread his type of values around the world.

You are the threat numer one :) And actually it's a true from military point of view that is more important for Russians. Europe can make trouble rather from cultural point of view - due to 'gay lobby and laws'. But we can affect on Europe by using gas :) And actually peoples does not consider Europe as a 'hostile place'.

USA is the only significant world power that Putin cannot talk into a deal of accepting his dishonesty and crony nature. Europe is dependent of Russia's natural resources, China's rulers share his values. The rest of the word is either too small to make any difference or does not care or is in line with Putin's vision of a new world order.
