The Joys of RuNet!

How can I ever leave the Russian blogosphere when I receive amusing and thought provoking comments like this! :)

"Странная женщина. 42 почти года, мужа нет. Работы, видимо, толковой тоже, иначе не каталась бы по самым дешевым билетам в Москву. Детей нет. Чего в жизни добилась-то? Русский кое-как выучила, чтоб русского мужчину найти? Так они давно разобраны, у них уже дети школу заканчивают. При этом гонор ого-го какой. Высокомерно поучает, хотя в сущности пишет банальности и глупости. Вам бы к психотерапевту, тётенька."

Btw, I never see the single male bloggers on LJ being harassed or criticized for not being married. Why is that? Is it only shameful for an older woman to be single in Russian culture, but okay for men to remain unmarried and childless? My life is worthless! I don't have a Russian man...how can I survive? :)

Pleasant weekend to all!

Внесу разнобразие в хор подпевал. Я не согласен. В условиях рашки-говняшки рискованно, но в условиях американской медицины может проскочит.

Куда катиться этот мир..

Shannon, try not to pay attention. This comment is bullshit. Every work has flaws and Russian blogosphere is not exception.

Well, you already know my opinion that people should marry :)
And not just marry but become a part of a dynasty, a chain from past to future.

Children are indeed a important part of Russian culture (at least in my contacts circle). I mean genetically own children being breed by their own parents. Life is very short and every own child gives you a chance that real part of you will exist ages after you: your genetics, your personal memories, your understanding of good and bad - all these things passed from you to your child.

Id guess to be single and without kids are not kosher in US as well. Both for man and womans. Look, all high achievers has bunch of kids, I say there are reason for this.
PS Two days ago surgeon was killed at Brigham and Woman's - depth chief, band player, has everything, 44 y.o. with 3 kids and wife pregnant with next one. Wife are plastic surgeon herself.

Oh, what a pity. No Russian husband. Such a life failure.
The deficit though is caused not by their having children graduating schools, but by their turning into alcoholics, en masse, by this age. And their life is mostly over anyway. I heard my classmate, yes, around 43, describing himself on the phone as an old man.

The only viable suggestion would be to pick up someone much younger; many would be happy to get a greencard. I hope you won't do it though, why would you? Do you really need a boss or something? A drunk one...

I have to admit that such stupid ideas about women`s life purposes aren't a rare thing in Russian soсiety. Please don`t care about it. There are many reasonable and pleasant people here, in Russia, I'm sure you will find plenty of them in LJ.

Being married is one of the strongest stereotypes of "right" way of life in Russia.

There are many unmarried women in Russia, this was the case in all European countries, so I can't consider this attack as something worthwhile discussion but if you like it...

Shannon, I really applaud you for being able to take such comments with a pitch of humor. This comment, being a vivid example of narrowmindedness or an attempt of trolling, nevertheless points at a serious problem many Russian women face. The problem isn't so astute in the big cities, where an independent woman can get by without being constantly trolled by the society. In the smaller communities, on the other hand, the woman is defenceless, and will be coerced by the society into the form of behavior the society expects of her. No surprise Russia is the world leader in the percent of divorces per couple.

Есть такая русская мужская глупость - думать, что женщина везде ищет только мужчину себе. "В отпуск поехала - любовника искать, в спортзал ходит - мужиков кадрить" и так далее.

Unfortunatelly it's normal for our society to judje person who don't want to live like other. I am married and going to work at sea. Once at interview they asked me if my husband will allow me to work at sea. Ugh.. Can you imagine that, as though I am a pet. Also I am childfree, my mother said to me that I have disgusting values in life (apparently it's all values except her values). It's really frustraiting. And I even don't mention what other people reaction like particularly in runet.
P.s. My husband's director removed one collegue when found out he is gay.
